How much holiday do part-time workers get?
5.6 × the days you work
The same 5.6 weeks as full-timers, pro rata. Multiply the days you work each week by 5.6: three days a week gets at least 16.8 days. If full-timers get more than the minimum, part-timers must get more too, in proportion.
Your days
| Days a week | Statutory minimum | If full-timers get 33 days |
|---|---|---|
| 4.5 | 25.2 days | 29.7 days |
| 4 | 22.4 days | 26.4 days |
| 3 | 16.8 days | 19.8 days |
| 2.5 | 14 days | 16.5 days |
| 2 | 11.2 days | 13.2 days |
| 1 | 5.6 days | 6.6 days |
The right-hand column is pro rata of 33 days (25 plus 8 bank holidays) for a five-day week. Part-time workers can't be treated less favourably than full-timers.
Working different hours each day?
Count it in hours: weekly hours × 5.6. Someone working 22.5 hours a week gets 126 hours of paid holiday a year, whichever days they fall on. If your hours change from week to week, the irregular hours rules apply instead: holiday for irregular hours.
Part days
16.8 days leaves 0.8 of a day. Your employer can't round it down. In your first year they must round part days up to the nearest half day; after that it's their choice. Ask how they want you to take it: leaving early, coming in late, or a full day off.
Bank holidays
Most bank holidays are Mondays, so if you don't work Mondays you can end up with more leave to book than a colleague who does, or fewer. How bank holidays work part-time.
