Is St David's Day a bank holiday?
No
St David's Day, 1 March, isn't a bank holiday. Wales has the same 8 bank holidays as England, which gov.uk lists together as “England and Wales”. In 2027 it's a Monday and in 2028 a Wednesday, so it's an ordinary working day unless your employer gives it.
Getting St David's Day off
- Your employer can choose to give it, as with any extra day beyond the legal minimum. Check your contract or staff handbook.
- Otherwise it's a day of leave. In 2027 1 March is a Monday, so one day of leave makes a three-day weekend.
- Wales's bank holidays are New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, the early May, spring and summer bank holidays, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. All the 2027 dates.
